Time for your Doctor Who & Orphan Black art again

1 JUNE 2015

Once again BBC America wants to show off your Doctor Who and Orphan Black fan art at SDCC. If you haven't given this a shot in previous years, here's how it works.

  • Your art must be about Orphan Black or the Capaldi Doctor/Season 8 of Doctor Who.
  • Save your work at its highest resolution, under 9MB, as a TIFF or JPEG file.
  • Send it to artsubmission@bbcamerica.com and include your Tumblr name.
  • Send 1 email for each piece - you're allowed 3.
  • The deadline is 12 June.
  • You'll retain all rights - the art will just be shown at Comic-Con.

Obviously this is a fun way to get your work shown at SDCC, but it's also a good way to meet other fans. You Clone Clubbers can get inspired here.

Orphan Black & X-Files games coming out in July

Happy spring, everyone - especially you beleaguered Northeasterners who've had such a hellish winter. (I grew up there and remember it well; now I have a palm tree in my front yard and I send you my sympathies.)

If you're eagerly awaiting announcements on the kind of exciting toys you can buy at SDCC, well, we haven't seen many official items yet. BUT we did get some interesting news from IDW Games this week on nerdy items they're releasing in July. Will these be at San Diego Comic-Con? They didn't say - but the marketing team would be squandering a golden opportunity if not.

X-Files Board Game

This will be drawn "from the first years" of the show, which I hope means we get Flukeman, Eugene Tooms and Leonard, the little twin from Humbug. It's designed by Arkham Horror's Kevin Wilson with art direction from menton3, who's been involved with the X-Files comic book. Apparently you can play Scully or Mulder, but let's hope you can be other characters as well because I know we all want to be Cigarette Smoking Man.

Orphan Black: The Card Game

Everyone's favorite clone show recently became a comic book; now it's going to be a game as well. Players in the card game can join up with the Proletheans, the Bird Watchers or the Neolutionists. A big-box tabletop game will come out further down the line.

IDW is also coming out with Kill Shakespeare and 30 Days of Night games this spring, and The Godfather card game will be out in August. In other words, there needs to be a Comic-Con tournament.

Orphan Black meet-up

15 JULY 2015

Remember last year when some show called Orphan Black started getting all this Comic-Con buzz? And most of us said, Never heard of it, Orphan what? Then we found out what it was about and tuned in. And though we came for the cloning storyline, we stayed for the thespian sorceress that is Tatiana Maslany.

This year there's a Clone Club Meetup but it's not your typical 10-15 people getting together for pancakes or whatnot. It's going to have a Cloneplay Theatre Challenge, a Clone Yourself Photo Booth, Helena Buffet (digest that for a minute), Cosima makeovers and something called a Pop-up Shop. In other words, it's your opportunity to shamelessly live out all of your secret Orphan Black "what kind of clone would I be" fantasies.

Except that this is on Friday from 1-3 and the Orphan Black panel is at 6 that night. That's some dodgy timing. The organizers understand the whole concept of SDCC lines, because the invite even says the line for this starts at 11. When do they think the line for the panel starts? Well, you'll all have to make it happen.

When: Friday, 25 July at 1 pm - 3 pm. The line starts at 11 am.

Where: Southpaw Social at 815 J Street

Who: Anyone! You don't need a badge, you don't need to be over 18.

I think we're all expecting some serious Grade A Orphan Black cosplay this year, both group and solo. I'm hoping Helena will be the leading solo clone - but this will probably tilt the odds in favor of Cosima. Regardless, if you're a Clone Club member, this is your mothership. Maybe everyone can make a special Comic-Con Emmy and give it to Tatiana Maslany at her panel.

Share your Orphan Black love at Comic-Con

9 JUNE 2014

You know how BBC is requesting your best Doctor Who fan art? They also want you to show your love for the Clone Club brilliance that is Tatiana Maslany in an Orphan Black wall of fan art and fan videos.

Same deadline, too - 16 June - which means you'll need to be creative fast.

The rules:

  • Make your work as high rez as possible, under 9MB and save as a JPEG or TIFF file. If video, upload it to wetransfer.com or similar site. Send it to artsubmission@bbc.com and include your Tumblr name.
  • No actual clips from the show. All original work required. Cosplaying is one of the suggestions - and since we all know the Con is going to be rife with clones wandering around (I'm guessing most people will do Helena in either her parka or her white tank top), this could be a dress rehearsal for group cosplayers.
  • The max video dimensions are 1920 x 1080, 30 seconds or less.
  • Maximum 3 submissions per person (sent in separate emails)
  • Deadline is 16 June at noon EST.
