The SDCC Events Guide cover is stunning

3 JULY 2016

Pretty sure Spock devotees, Star Trek fans and misplaced Vulcans everywhere got the shivers looking at what is one of the most beautiful Events Guide covers I can remember. If you're curious, it's by artist Ty Mattson and it's part of the "Star Trek: 50 Artists. 50 Years" exhibit.

In other news - CCI promoted their publications today and one of them is a daily newsletter. Is this new? Was I oblivious to this last year? (Probably.) This will be a "full-color foldout newspaper" with updates on autographs, signings, programming & it will include photos and announcements from the previous day. The title: Comic-Con Today, which suggests it will one day segue into a virtual pop-up screen with a Stan Lee holograph as your friendly news anchor. We'd all be down for that, right?

  1. Valerie, the daily newsletter has been a staple of the Comic-Con for as long as I can remember. It usually is just 4 pages, with photos and recaps of the previous day. There will be one for Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They tried that one year at WonderCon (probably close to 10 years ago), but they never brought it back.

  2. Yep, I always try to pick up the little newspaper every day. They usually have them up in the Sails, and at a few places near the doors to the exhibit floor. They've had it for as long as I've been attending the con (this year will be my 9th).

  3. Oh, that little paper. I think I was envisioning something different. I didn't even realize that was its name.

  4. The events cover is really stunning. Even though I like Wonder Woman, this would've made for a better con shirt design this year, especially since it is commemorating 50 years of Star Trek. It would be great if they could sell a shirt, mug, or other merchandise with this with this design.

    1. This would make an incredible shirt. An incredible anything, really. The artist has licensed Star Wars posters for sale; maybe he'll end up doing something similar with this.
