Emerald City passes are on sale

1 SEPTEMBER 2014

Just a reminder that ECCC passes went live this morning.  You can get them here. Happy Labor Day.

ETA: Deluxe Passes (the $150 option) sold out in under 3 minutes. The Celebrity Fast Pass for $295 is still available, probably because of the price tag.

ETA: Everything else is still available but ECCC has confirmed they've "already had record breaking (for us) first day sales" and estimates that "You’ve probably got a couple months, if the current pattern holds true." Now obviously they know their numbers and I don't - but if you're dead set on attending ECCC, I wouldn't wait that long.

I have a feeling one reason the Celebrity Fast Passes haven't sold out yet is because ECCC is still considering which special guests to include. Hence people don't know if they want to pony up $300 for celebrity access yet. It'll be interesting to see how coming announcements (some this week) will influence that sale.

Some people seemed stunned and a little bitter that the Deluxe Passes went so fast - but for those of us accustomed to SDCC badge sales, this was a downright relaxing experience.

  1. This has definitely been a year of record-breaking sales for ECCC passes. I just saw this on their Tumblr page.

Thanks for your feedback! We talked to the team who manages ticket sales, and while we aren’t allowed to give you percentages or the number of tickets still available, we can provide you with some info.

Our first-day ticket sales were record breaking for us this year, they definitely exceeded our expectations. Over half of our available 3-day passes have now been sold. We will give what warnings we can on passes selling out.

If you are waiting to purchase a 3-day pass to ECCC for budgetary reasons, or making sure your schedule is clear, or anything like that, our advice is to buy them as soon as you can, because at this point we don’t know when they’ll sell out.

If you’re waiting to purchase passes because you’re waiting to see what guests we’ll announce, know that we always do our best to book awesome guests for our attendees, and our plan is to announce one celeb and at least five comic guests per week.

We know that’s not quite what a few of you asked for, but it’s all we’re able to provide at this time.

It seems as if a lot of people are 'discovering' this con, and that it is earning its reputation as a good 'alternative to SDCC', for those who can't get SDCC badges or feel that SDCC is not comics-focused enough. The sheer number of comics guests at this con is amazing! You can see that above where they say that they want to announce 5 comics guests each week.

I agree that the celebrity passes may be selling more slowly both because of the hefty price tag, and because people don't know who the celebrities may be (except for a few who have already been announced).

  2. Thank you for that awesome comment. I agree, ECCC is a rising star in the Con space. I've been pushing it because I believe it really is an ideal alternative to SDCC.

It's just incredible how fast their sales have accelerated from last year to this year.

  3. Last year was my first year attending ECCC, and it was apparently already a 'fast sale' since tickets sold out in January. A lot of locals were stunned that they were unable to buy tickets last minute. Clearly ECCC is moving up into the 'big leagues' in terms of demand.

I'm thinking badges may sell out by the end of October. As it is, the closest hotel apparently sold out of rooms within minutes of becoming available: both con block and direct booking. I have heard that a lot of the other hotels sold out as well.

    1. I definitely think badges will be gone by Halloween, if not sooner. Maybe a few single day stragglers will be left.

I actually booked my room at the Sheraton through the ECCC site a few days before they were supposed to go live - something I'm glad for now.

    2. Interesting! I didn't know that the hotels went on sale early. Something to look for next year...

    3. I just happened upon it by chance. I went onto the ECCC site on August 27, saw the hotels were live and pounced on the Sheraton. SDCC has trained me well.

  4. SDCC has me trained well too, although I got my Sheraton reservation in a different way. I guess from being in San Diego, we have both learned to grab opportunities when you see them!
