Hotel Day is here

26 FEBRUARY 2013

The bloodbath is upon us. And it's Mercury Retrograde, which should make the astrology-believers among you extra nervous.

I'll post whatever updates I can, but generally there's not a lot of detail to share about Hotel Day. We'll get shut out of the system, or we'll get in. The hotel rooms don't disappear in real time like they used to (remember how much fun that was?) so it's all very anticlimactic and you're left wondering what hotel you'll be assigned. People will undoubtedly complain about the busy phone lines and white screens, but the real outrage will  begin whenever our emails come in.

Review your 6 choices again, offer a little sacrifice to the nerd gods, and steel your nerves. Good luck.

ETA: So it sounds like we all got in without trouble, though the phone lines were mostly useless at first. My friend who got through on the phone around 10:15 was told only non-downtown hotels were left. No surprise there, but there's no way they actually assigned requests to hotels that quickly; that was probably just an accurate assumption.

Also worth noting: Twitter has been electric with announcements that the Hotel Indigo has plenty of rooms available. So if you feel cynical about your chances today, give them a call.

Did anyone not get right in? What wild card hotels did you pick?

  1. Was done by 12:02. Didn't even try calling the phones... Why can't the badge sales be this easy.

    1. There's a lot more people competing on Registration Day - Hotel Day is only those of us who actually got a badge, and haven't made other arrangements. But yes, it would be nice if everyone could get in the system to buy badges this easily.

    1. A lot of it depends on the kind of room you requested and of course, the hotels you requested. Good luck.
